Flood Damage Closes a Popular MN State Park Until at Least July
One of Minnesota's most popular state parks is currently closed until at least July due to flood damage. The Minnesota DNR posted early on that Fort Snelling State Park was closed because of flooding and now the damage has extended the closure.
Fort Snelling State Park manager Kelli Bruns told KARE 11 that “the park experienced significant damage to its main roads and water lines, and there are downed trees and trail washouts that need to be repaired."
There was a water main break in the park office too. KARE 11 also reports that people aren't able to reach Picnic Island because the road is underwater. The fishing pier has also been "pushed high on dry land by the Mississippi River."
The Minnesota DNR says that the length of the closure depends on the weather and the progress of the work that needs to be done due to the flood damage.
