Ford Recalling Thousands of Cars That Could Unexpectedly Roll Away
About 550,000 vehicles are being recalled by Ford because, get this, the cars could roll away unexpectedly. You think you have your car in park? Nope! Your car now has a mind of its own and it's going to roll into the car in front of it!
KARE 11 said that Ford informed consumers that "a bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission can fall off. If this happens, the driver could shift into park but the vehicle could be in another gear. That could let the vehicle roll, increasing the risk of injury or crash."
The cars that this recall is affecting:
Some 2013 through 2016 Fusion sedans.
Some 2013 and 2014 small Escape SUVs.
Owners affected by this will be notified by July 30th. Ford says its dealers will replace the shifter bushing for free. The parts will be in soon, and Ford says, for the time being, to be sure you use your emergency brake to make sure your car won't roll away.
So far, Ford doesn't know of any crashes or injuries related to this problem.
