Four Zumbrota-Mazeppa Wrestlers Place at State, One Kenyon-Wanamingo

Zumbrota-Mazeppa senior Caden Steffen captured his second Class A individual state championship Saturday during the MSHSL State Wrestling Tournament.

The future Golden Gopher defeated Holt Truax of Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie 3-1 in the 182 pound title match to finish his season 42-3.

Kenyon-Wanamingo senior Logan Quam placed 6th at the same weight and was 29-9 this year.

Cougar junior Jacob Bennett finished 2nd at 195 pounds falling to Dalton Wagner of Jackson County Central 7-1 in the finals.  Bennett finished his season 47-4.

Triton's Hunter Jennings placed 3rd at 195 and ended his season 26-5 while Westfield's (Hayfield/Blooming Prairie) Morgan Moreno was 5th at 195 pounds. Moreno's record was 35-7.

Sophomore Michael Majerus of Zumbrota-Mazeppa finished 6th at 106 pounds and ended the season 37-8.

Charley Elwood of Medford was 2nd after falling 10-7 in the title match against Will Magaard of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (46-1).  Elwood ended this season 26-4.

Seth Goetzinger of Chatfield was third at 106 pounds in Class A defeating Ethan Arett of Westfield 10-4.  Meaning Arett finished 4th.  Goetzinger's record 34-8 and Arett's 32-10.

Carter Jonsagaard of Lewiston-Altura-Rushford-Peterson finished 34-14 while placing 4th at 113 pounds.

At 120 Jackson Hale (34-5) of Grand Meadow-Leroy-Ostrander-Southland placed 4th.  Jorge Hernandez (39-10) of LeSueur-Henderson was 5th.

At 126 pounds Blake Legred (39-6) of United South Central placed 2nd after a 13-9 decision in the title match against Michael Suda (40-3) of Pipestone Area.

At 132 pounds Mark Buringa (41-6) of St. Charles placed 2nd, falling in the title match 12-6 to Hunter Burnett (44-2) of Pipestone Area.

At 138 Kyle Cavanaugh (32-4) of Caledonia-Houston picked up a 11-1 major decision over Gage Zieske (44-2) of Osakis to win a State Championship.  Willie Von Ruden (35-5) of Medford was 3rd.

At 145 Jake Mandt (38-1) of Chatfield finished 2nd after losing 9-6 to Brady Tweeton (44-1) of Barnesville.

At 152 pounds Goodhue's Mason Huemann (39-7) placed 4th after losing a very tough match to a wrestler from Minneota.

At 160 pounds Zach Schneider (37-3) of Caledonia-Houston defeated Colton Krell (38-4) 9-2 in the State Championship match.  Junior Kelby O'Reilly (32-9) of Goodhue finished 5th.

At 170 pounds junior Kaleb O'Reilly (41-8) of Goodhue also placed 5th by defeating senior Hayden Voxland (34-16) of Zumbrota-Mazeppa.

Waterville-Elysian-Morristown senior Will Storch (42-1) is the Class A 220 pound State Champion.

Westfield 285 pound Mitchell Oswald (34-7) placed 4th.
