Gates Have Opened for Another Run of the Minnesota State Fair
Falcon Heights, MN(KROC AM News) - The 12-day run of the 2018 Minnesota State Fair began Thursday morning.
An all-time attendance record of nearly 2-million was set last year.
The annual custom of crowning a new Princess Kay of the Milky Way took place at the fairgrounds Wednesday night.
Crowned the new princess was 20-year-old Rebekka Paskewitz of Browerville, who represented Todd County. Blaize Dankers of Plainview, representing Wabasha County, and Korissa Lindquist of Kerkhoven were runners-up. Julia Mullenbach of Rose Creek, representing Mower County, was one of three contestants to win a scholarship.
The first official duty for the new princess will be sitting in a large, rotating cooler as she has her likeness sculpted in a 90-pound block of butter.
The first person to enter the grounds was Ginger Johnson of Apple Valley, who was wearing a very non-Minnesota shirt.
