Today we recognize those who get our kids and grandkids to school safe and sound each day, to those who drive teams to sporting events, conference meets, and robotics competitions. Without school bus drivers taking the lead think how crazy our world would be. Today in Minnesota it is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day and a bunch of area schools has taken to social media to show their appreciation.

“Bus drivers are often the first person from the district that many of our students see every day,” said Gregg Slaathaug, Superintendent of Schools. “We appreciate our bus drivers and recognize their commitment. Our bus drivers support and keep our athletic teams safe as they travel to games, and non-student athletes go to contests and field trips. Our bus drivers are an integral part of our team.”

What is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day?

According to the Minnesota School Bus Operator's Association School Bus Driver Appreciation Day "was established in February 22, 2017. The purpose of School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is to recognize school bus drivers for their efforts to go above and beyond in order to transport students to school every day in Minnesota. The MSBOA intends to hold this as an annual event on the 4th Wednesday in February."

How are people celebrating?

Schools across the listening area have taken to social media to publicly thank all those who get up early and stay late on school nights and weekends to see our kids make it safely to their destination. Here are a few of our area schools and how they are giving honor and respect to those who drive.
