Goodhue #3 Seed in Section 1AA Girls Tournament

The Goodhue Wildcats have adjusted well to moving up a class this season earning the #3 seed in the Section 1AA Tournament which opens up this week at the high seeds.  The Wildcats (23-3) host #14 Lewiston-Altura (8-18) Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

You could make the case for Goodhue to be the #2 seed.  They split with Lake City during the regular season and have a better record.

The game to determine top seed Rochester Lourdes (23-2) opponent will be Tuesday night when Caledonia (7-19) goes to Cannon Falls (8-18). #2 seed Lake City (21-5) hosts #15 Pine Island (6-20).  #3 seed Goodhue will have #12 Lewiston-Altura (8-18) visit the Wildcats gym.  #4 seed Winona Cotter (22-3) hosts #13 LaCrescent (11-15).

#5 seed Stewartville (18-8) hosts #12 Kenyon-Wanamingo (8-17) Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.  #6 seed Zumbrota-Mazeppa (16-9) hosts #11 Chatfield (9-17).  #7 Dover-Eyota (18-7) is home against #10 St. Charles (11-13).  #8 Plainview-Elgin-Millville (15-10) hosts #9 Triton (13-12).

Somebody please explain to me why the first ten seeds appear to be by QRF and the rest are not.  If you go by QRF then Cannon Falls should be the #14 seed and Pine Island would be hosting Caledonia Tuesday night.

Kenyon-Wanamingo is #11 by QRF and Chatfield #13.  The Knights defeated the Lady Gophers 71-66 so that is not the reason for the change.  In my mind head to head should prevail when teams are close in total record.

In early December Stewartville recorded a 33 point win over Kenyon-Wanamingo in Kenyon.

Quarterfinal Section 1AA games will be played at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center on Monday, February 24.  Top bracket in the Arena, bottom bracket the Auditorium.  The title game will be Thursday, March 5 8:00 p.m. in the Arena.
