Goodhue Girls Run Away from Kenyon-Wanamingo

The Goodhue Wildcats girls basketball team went on a 27-4 run to end the first half with a 24 point lead over Kenyon-Wanamingo in Goodhue tonight.

After Goodhue started the game up 7-0, Kenyon-Wanamingo Head Coach Brent Lurken took a time out and his Knights proceeded to go on an 8-0 run to take their only lead of the game 8-7.

Goodhue Head Coach Josh Wieme took a time out and the vice grip on the press got tighter and they went on that run to end the half and never look back in a 60-33 win.

The Goodhue concession stand served up a choice of a ham sub or rib sandwich and I had the rib sandwich and chips.  The sandwich was on a delicious wheat bun.

Just two Wildcats finished with double figures.  Freshman guard Arianna Thomforde had 16 points, mostly on fast break layups after turnovers.

Senior Sydney Lodermeier finished with 10 points.

My unofficial stats courtesy of Baker and Axelson CPA's of Wanamingo had the Knights with nearly as many turnovers as points and Goodhue with nearly as many points off turnovers as Kenyon-Wanamingo had in total points for the game.

The Knights had 26 turnovers and Goohue 25 points off those turnovers and it did prove to be the difference in the game.

Kenyon-Wanamingo Head Coach Brent Lurken taped our Kenyon-Wanamingo girls coaches show for Saturday and said he thought his team's "half court offense was good."

The turnovers weren't necessarily made due to the pressure but the pressure appeared to me to make the Knights go faster than they wanted to resulting in some bad passes.

Both teams played every player available.

Our Knights of the game courtesy of Held Bus Service of Kenyon were 5'8 sophomore Riley Dummer with 17 points and five three pointers made on the night and Tess Hokanson.

The senior finished with 5 points, all at the free throw line and had to have double digit rebounds.

Hokanson is asked to do a lot for Kenyon-Wanamingo and plays so hard.

Coach Lurken says Hokanson played point guard earlier in her career but with Mara Quam anchoring down that spot the previous 4 or 5 years for the Knights she wasn't needed to play at that position.

Kenyon-Wanamingo drops their record to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in the H-V-L Blue Division and Goodhue is now 3-0 in the Conference and 11-1 overall.

The Wildcats are stilled ranked second in Class A by the Minnesota Basketball News.

By the way their game against top ranked Lyle/Austin Pacelli originally scheduled for this Saturday has been moved to February 10

The Knights next game will be against Cannon Falls in the Castle on KDHL Tuesday night.
