Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the long-awaited sequel to the box office blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy, hit the the theaters last Friday, May 5, kicking off the summer movie season with an estimated $145 million debut. It also opened 54 percent higher than its predecessor. Amazingly none of the other studios released anything new to the screens, knowing that they would take a beating at the box office going up against this action comedy comic book juggernaut.

My wife decided I needed to relax and enjoy life a little bit after several weekends of working on several projects, so after the Walk MS on Sunday we drove to Owatonna to catch a late afternoon matinee. I won't give too much away but Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, finds his long-lost dad, Kurt Russell, or should I say his dad finds him, and is taken back to his father's home planet along with the rest of the gang. But not all is what it seems. This movie is filled with plenty of the same fast-paced action, violence and comedy that propelled the original into the box office smash stratosphere and the characters have grown quite a bit since the first movie, except for Groot. Voiced once again by Vin Diesel, little Groot all but steals the show at times. This movie was a fun escape and it helped take my mind off life for a while.

If you decide to take in this movie, make sure you stay through the credits as there are several little cut-ins that you won't want to miss.
