Just when you think nothing could be better than National Strawberry Rhubarb Wine Day, which is Saturday, July 15, you find out Sunday, July 16 is National Ice Cream Day. Why hasn't this day been elevated to holiday status yet? Shut down all the stores except the ice cream places, so everyone can enjoy an ice cold dairy treat without any distractions!

National Ice Cream Day falls on the third Sunday of July each year and is part of the larger Ice Cream Month and, according to the NationalDayCalendar website, these two events were decreed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. According to Time.com, the day is celebrated with free ice cream and other deals by several ice cream shops including McDonalds, Baskin-Robbins, Dippin' Dots locations, the PetSmart PetHotel locations (treats for the dogs and their humans) and others.

I really like several different flavors of ice cream, but my favorites are peppermint bon-bon followed by any flavor that has a ribbon of caramel running through it and of course the old mainstay, chocolate.

If an old-fashioned ice cream social is more your speed, then make sure you check out the Grace Lutheran Nerstrand Ice Cream Social this Sunday. Not only are they serving ice cream, but they'll have pies and root beer floats.
