How cliche. The coldest Super Bowl setting since 1967 was Minneapolis, site of Super Bowl 52, with the Eagles taking on the Patriots. The kick-off temperature was a nippy 2F with a "high" that day of 9 above zero and a game time wind chill of -14F. So we have that going for us, reinforcing tired Minnesota weather-stereotypes. Oh well. Note to self: it was a balmy 70F inside U.S. Bank Stadium.

Coldest (Outdoor) Super Bowl

The coldest (outdoor) Super Bowl was Cowboys vs. Dolphins at Tulane Stadium in New
Orleans in 1972, with a kick-off temperature of 39F. The 2000 game in Atlanta was played during an ice storm outside!

As far as I can determine, the third coldest Super Bowl was played at MetLife Stadium in Rutherford, New Jersey on February 2, 2014, with a game time temperature of 49 degrees. Positively balmy by comparison. The timing worked out for that match-up between the Seahawks and the Broncos because the next day a whopping 8" of snow fell.

According to data compiled at the Southeast Regional Climate Center only 20 of the previous 55 have been played in domed stadiums (36.6%), while 35 have been held outdoors in warm-weather cities.

Warmest Super Bowl

According to "the “hottest” game was played on February 13, 2022, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. At kickoff, the temperature was 82°F, with a high of 85°F and low of 60°F throughout the game, making it the warmest Super Bowl ever played."

Wettest Super Bowl

The wettest Super Bowl ever played was 2007, when .92" of rain fell on Miami as the Colts took on the Bears. That was the Super Bowl that featured the most remarkable halftime show, with Prince somehow remaining upright, singing and dancing in a soaking south Florida downpour.

Maybe you wondered why the NFL tends to choose predominately southern (domed) cities to host the Big Game? Weather is always part of the equation for football games, but for the Championship Game the goal (apparently) is to try and take weather out of the equation completely.
