Owatonna's Senior Night game went a little longer than the home fans would have desired as Mankato West hit a three-pointer with 15 seconds remaining to force overtime. The Huskies controlled the extra session to win 71-61 and score the season sweep of the Scarlets.

Owatonna scored the first eight points of overtime. OHS junior Isaac Oppegard quickly made his way to the free throw line and hit both of them for his game total of six points. Sophomore Nolan Burmeister made a steal and took that to the hoop for two of his six points. Freshman Evan Dushek scored on a rebound, as part of a nine point, 11 rebound night.

It seemed appropriate that a senior would deliver the knock out blows after that. Jared Fett had a steal and layup for a 65-57 Huskies' lead. Then he blocked a three-point shot and hit a few free throws for the 71-61 final. "Nothing but net. 20 for Fett," proclaimed KRFO announcer Brad Fischer. Fett earned the TPS Insurance Player of the Game honor with 20 points and about 13 rebounds to go with several blocked shots.

Seniors Steven Eckard added 12 points, Jack Hanson six and Braydn Larson two. Owatonna had a big 36-20 advantage on the glass and the teams were about even with 16 turnovers apiece.

Owatonna led 31-23 at the half thanks to a surge just before halftime. The game was tied at 57-57 after regulation. Owatonna's b-squad and JV won their games.

The Huskies have one more home game, a rescheduled date with Austin Thursday, February 28 at 7:30 pm on KRFO AM 1390, the KRFO app and OwatonnaLive.com. Austin lost to Mankato East Tuesday 84-59 to create a tie atop the Big Nine standings between those two teams.

OHS will play at Northfield Friday, March 1 then open the playoffs at Lakeville North Wednesday, March 6. Seedings don't officially come out until Saturday morning, but Huskies coach Josh Williams said it is inevitable that the Huskies will match-up with the Panthers. The OHS girls open their playoffs Wednesday night at North as well.

Also on Tuesday in boys' basketball, Rochester John Marshall beat Faribault 70-62 after being tied at halftime. Matthew Hurt scored 52 points for the Rockets.
