Teams want to be playing their best come playoff time. The Owatonna High School boys hockey team may have accomplished that this season. The Huskies have won eight of their last nine games heading into the Section 1AA playoffs Thursday, February 24 at 7 pm. As the sixth seed, OHS goes to third-seed Hastings. The Raiders topped OHS 4-1 January 11 at Four Seasons Centre.

At a recent game Huskies coach Dave Fromm said the team is getting the systems down, and getting, healthier, "They're obviously getting comfortable with what we're teaching, buying into it. And getting healthy also helps, getting everybody back is a huge thing."

Owatonna (10-14-1) is led in scoring by Owen Beyer (13 goals, 12 assists for 25 points), Casey Pederson (8G, 13A, 21 points), Tanner Stendel (12G, 8A, 20 points), and Caleb Vereide (9G, 11A, 20 points). The Huskies goalies are Preston Meier (6-9-1) and Sam Pfieffer (3-5). Each net minder has a shutout.

Hastings (20-4-1) is the second-leading scoring team in the section at 5.4 goals per game. The Raiders are led by Connor Stoffel (25G, 31A, 56 points), Jake Harris (23G, 31A, 54 points) Luke Savage (18G, 18A, 36 points) and Stephen Reifenberger (16G, 19A, 35 points). Their goalies are Holden Richardson (12-3) and Kody Niederkorn (7-1-1 with one shutout).

Section 1AA playoffs begin Tuesday, February 22 (weather permitting) with Dodge County hosting Rochester JM. The winner goes to top seed Lakeville South Thursday. The other quarterfinals are Farmington at Rochester Mayo and Century at Lakeville North.

The winner of the Owatonna/Hastings game will face the winner of North/Century Saturday, February 26 at 2 pm at the Rec Center in Rochester.
