Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Transportation has closed I-90 west of Dexter and I-35 from Owatonna south to the Iowa border due to blowing  snow .

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Department has announced the freeway is closed in both directions west of the interchange at Alden. While I-90 remains open in both directions east of Alden, the roadway is completely covered by snow and ice and no travel is advised between Stewartville and Albert Lea due to blowing snow. No travel is also recommended on sections of Highways 52, 60, 61, 58, 56, 57, 50, 30, 218 and several other highways in the region.

MnDOT is reporting difficult driving conditions across southeastern Minnesota with most roads south of Farmington rated as completely covered by snow or ice.

Forecasters are predicting freezing rain will change over to snow tonight. The snowfall totals could be as high as a foot by tomorrow morning and winds gusting to almost 50 miles per hour are possible late Saturday night and through the day on Sunday. A blizzard warning has been posted until 6 PM Sunday.
