According to an email from the Northfield Area Chamber of Commerce last night, the Chamber is collecting feedback from the business community in regard to a possible "indoor face-covering ordinance" for the City of Northfield.

During the Tuesday night, July 7th Northfield City Council meeting a resolution of support for a statewide mask/face covering requirement was voted on and approved unanimously [6-0], and a motion was passed unanimously to consider requiring face coverings for indoor city facilities. This includes not only city staff but members of the public. Those buildings that would be included under this motion are Northfield's City Hall, the municipal liquor store, the police station, library, the locker rooms at the city pool and ice arena, and the public works maintenance building.

A possible indoor face-covering ordinance for all indoor spaces will be on the July 21st agenda for the Northfield City Council unless Gov. Walz creates an executive order requiring face coverings.

Mayor Pownell during the meeting discussed her support for a city-wide indoor face-covering ordinance.

City Administrator Ben Martig stated during a phone conversation today that the city of Northfield would provide masks to individuals entering a city-run/controlled building free of charge if they needed one upon entrance.

If Northfield goes through with an indoor face-covering ordinance will Faribault follow suit?

Recently, we here at the station have been asked, but not yet required, to start wearing masks if we are to be within 6 feet of each other or working in close proximity of each other.
