Roseau Warns Residents About Counterfeit Money Circulating Locally
Scam alert! It's been awhile since we've had an old school scam like this. I feel like most scams have become so sophisticated - so much so that there is seemingly a new scam every single day.
Earlier this week, several law enforcement agencies across both Minnesota and Wisconsin warned of a fake traffic / parking violation scam. At first glance, it definitely appears legitimate.

Now, a new scam has emerged. This time, the scam is coming from Roseau, a small town in the northernmost part of the state. Since it's already in Minnesota, it could pop up anywhere.
The Roseau Police Department took to social media on Tuesday (May 12th) to warn about it, sharing details of the scam and what you should do if you encounter it.
According to their post, this has been happening not only in Roseau but in several other areas. Fake money is seemingly circulating with people even trying to use it when paying for something out in public.

Scammers are using this fake money to try to pay for things and people aren't noticing because it never crosses their mind that this money could be fake. People then end up with fake money and try to use it because they don't realize it is fake. It's a vicious cycle.
Locals hopped into the comment section sharing that they've received this fake money at garage sales. Some were even tipped with this fake money. In all scenarios, someone loses out on money.

Upon closer look, you can see the cash actually shares it is for movie purposes only. I definitely would not notice this at all. Plus, most of us are used to simply using our debit card to pay for everything. Stay safe out there!
