Bait Shop Issues Warning For Those Heading Out On Mille Lacs
If you were planning on heading out onto Lake Mille Lacs anytime soon, you should make sure you are paying attention. One local bait shop as asked those out fishing to stay well away from one area of the lake due to a large crack, and it also seems that more vehicles have gone into the lake. Here's what we know about the conditions on Mille Lacs in the Garrison area.
The folks out at Garrison Bait and Tackle are busy. Yesterday they put a note on social media, warning drivers out on the ice to stay away from a certain area, as a large crack has developed. In addition to the crack warning, they advise people to be very aware of ice conditions and pressure ridges continue to send vehicles into the lake.
Our access will remain closed to any oncoming wheelhouses for the rest of the weekend. If your out here your welcome to come and go as you please. If your set up south of the staked road stay 80-100 yds south of the staked rd coming in and out. If your set up north stay 80-100 yds north. The crack is running right down the road parallel with the stakes. We will be out marking the crack all the way to the hourglass at sunrise. For any questions feel free to call the store 320-692-4477.

In addition to that note, the bait and tackle shop in Garrison put out another reminder for drivers to use the bridge out on the lake, as it's there for a reason.
So if you are heading out today, or the early part of this week, note that the snow we got recently might be covering up portions of the lake that have poor ice conditions, so stop out at a local resort or bait shop to get the latest ice conditions.
Be careful out on the ice, this was the 7th vehicle recovered by Jim this winter
Local tow operator, and water recovery expert Jim Staricha of Northland Towing in Isle, posted about another vehicle he was called to pull out of a lake this winter, making it the 7th so far this winter and we aren't even to the halfway point in January.
If you decide to head out, it's also going to be dangerously cold over the next few days, so make sure you've got what you need to stay warm and comfortable out on the area's lakes and of course, don't forget to set the hook.
