I just told you about one sure sign of spring, the Minnesota Tulip House, and now it seems another sign of warmer temps and road trips is throwing hints that spring is in the air. An 'Up North' institution has announced its 2026 opening dates, and there are plenty of Minnesotans who will be there for this 'Opener'.

2026 Will Mark 66 Years Of Feeding Hungry Minnesotans

Gordy's Hi-Hat opened its doors back in 1960, when Gordy & Marilyn Lundquist built Gordy’s Hi-Hat in Cloquet. It's hard to believe that this business has been serving hungry Minnesotans for the last 6+ decades!

Known for its malts, shakes, burgers, and just down-home feeling Gordy's is one of those places that you'll drive hours just to grab a bite to eat, while you are exploring everything that the land of 10,000 roadtrips has to offer.

Opening Day Has Been Set...

When Minnesotans mention 'The Opener', lots of things come to mind. Of course, there is the Minnesota fishing opener for walleye, sauger, northern pike, and other inland game fish, which will be on Saturday, May 9, this year.

You've then got baseball fans, so to them 'Opener' often means heading down to Target Field for breakfast on the plaza, followed by an early afternoon game while watching the boys of summer play.

Still others, when you mention 'Opener', I think back to my childhood listening to the radio with my parents, and having a talk radio host declare the opener being the first 70-degree day, you pop open your garage door, plop down a lawn chair, and enjoy a beverage. (IYKYK)

The 'Opener' I am referencing isn't any of those; it's when Gordy's Hi-Hat will start serving up those burgers, malts, shakes, and of course, that potato salad!

This year, fans of Gordy's will have to wait until March 25th to enjoy the taste of nostalgia, but hey, that's just 2 weeks away.
