Last month I told you the City of Champlin voted 3-2 to fly the 1983 Minnesota state flag, rather than use the new state flag. It turns out that other communities and counties are also only using/flying the 1983 flag. Here are some other communities you won't see the new state flag in.

St. Francis Flying The 'Old' State Flag

In January, the St. Francis City Council proposed and passed a resolution stating that it would use only the 1983 state flag.

"The St. Francis City Council has decided, until further notice of a statutory change or further, a vote of the people of Minnesota on this matter, that it will not be flying or displaying the official Minnesota State flag in city offices or city council chamber, nor upon any of the flag poles controlled and maintained by the City of St. Francis."

North Branch Opposes New State Flag

The City Council in North Branch, back in 2024, voted in opposition to the new state flag and seal. The North Branch council passed a resolution stating they wouldn't be flying or displaying the new flag. According to the Chisago County Press, "the resolution passed 3-1".

"barring any unknown State of Minnesota Statutory requirement, that the North Branch City Council has decided until further notice of a statutory change or further, a vote of the people of Minnesota on this matter, that it will not be flying nor displaying the official Minnesota State flag in the City offices or City Council Chamber nor upon any of the flag poles controlled and maintained by the City of North Branch."

Crow Wing County

While you won't see the 1983 state flag flying at the Crow Wing County Government Center in Brainerd, you won't see the new flag flying either. In January 2024, the County Board of Commissioners voted 3-1 to reject the flag.
