Hartland, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Twin Cities man lost his life in a southern Minnesota crash.

The State Patrol responded to the deadly crash shortly before 9:30 Friday morning.

One of the two vehicles involved in the fatality was a semi truck. The drivers were the only occupants in the vehicles.

60-Year-Old Twin Cities Man Killed in Crash With Semi on Hwy. 13 Near Albert Lea

The fatal crash occurred at the intersection Hwy. 13 and 315th St., which is about 13 miles north of Albert Lea. 

A Jeep traveling north on Hwy. 13 collided with the semi, which was heading south on the two-lane highway, according to the state crash report. 

60-year-old Michael Douglas Smith of Whitebear Township was identified as the Jeep driver. The State Patrol says he died at the scene.

49-year-old John Lyle Farrell of Waucoma, IA was driving the semi. The State Patrol says he was not hurt. 

Alcohol was not involved in the crash and both drivers were buckled up, the state crash report indicates. 

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Hartland Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance also responded to the deadly collision.
