The Rochester City Council approved a council-initiated action earlier this month to launch a pilot program that would open RPS elementary school gyms to the community on Saturday evenings during the upcoming school year.
The measure moved forward after the council unanimously voted to override a veto to the program issued by Mayor Kim Norton.
The program calls for the city to provide up to $50,000 to cover RPS costs to staff the open gyms. District and city officials have launched a survey to give community members a chance to provide feedback on the program. The survey is open now through July 20.
An RPS spokesperson says, “the data from the survey, along with feedback via other community engagement activities, will be used to inform day, time, location and use.” The survey can be found by clicking here.
