Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Mayo Clinic Health systems is planning to shutter six clinical locations in southern Minnesota before the end of the year.

Once the closures are complete, Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Minnesota will shrink from 25 to 19. 

"Rural and community healthcare across the country is facing significant challenges, including staffing shortages and declining patient volumes," a news release announcing the closures says.

Care offered at the soon-to-be closed locations will be available at nearby Mayo Clinic Health system locations. 

Mayo Clinic Health Systems to Close Six Locations in Southern Minnesota By Dec. 10

By December 10, Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Belle Plaine, Caledonia, Montgomery, Northridge (North Mankato), St. Peter, and Wells will transition care offered to nearby facilities.

A specific closure date for each facility is not available. The closest facilities to the soon-to-be closed locations are in Mankato, New Prague, Albert Lea and La Crosse. 

Mayo says they will inform patients of which facility their current provider will be operating out of within the next four weeks.

Patients with appointments scheduled at the locations marked for closure after Dec. 10 will be contacted directly with the new location of their appointment.

The website post also says Mayo will work with patients to help them continue to see their current providers at a different location if possible. 

"We remain committed to rural health and continue to invest in improving care access and patient experience across the region—through technology, facilities, and care team models that can adapt to future needs," said Dr. Karthik Ghosh, vice president, MCHS Minnesota.
