Mayo Clinic Outlines Rochester Building Plans in New 5-Year-Plan
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Mayo Clinic has taken a major step toward beginning construction on what is been described as a transformational expansion of Mayo Clinic facilities in downtown Rochester.
Mayo Clinic today announced it has submitted an updated five-year plan to the City of Rochester that reflects potential plans and building projects that are being proposed in the next several years. According to a news release, the updated plan includes the potential for two new medical buildings, patient/visitor parking ramps, and ancillary facilities that are part of the healthcare provider’s Bold. Forward. strategy to "transform healthcare globally and reimagined patient and staff experience in Rochester."
The revisions are being made to a five-year plan that is only about a year old. The five-year plan process allows Mayo Clinic to enjoy a great deal of flexibility as it plans for future investments in Rochester, while also providing the city with a rough outline of what it can expect to see happen in downtown Rochester as Mayo Clinic continues to grow. Approval of the five-year plan by the City Council gives Mayo Clinic authorization to pursue the listed projects without having to submit the plans for additional public hearings. It's anticipated the new five-year plan will be the subject of a public hearing before the City Council in October.

Earlier this summer, Mayo Clinic announced the approval of a number of so-called enabling projects in downtown Rochester in preparation for a possible multibillion-dollar investment in the city. Soil boring work has been taking place this summer in areas where Mayo Clinic has indicated new buildings could be constructed over the next few years, including the former Lourdes High School property. The Mayo Clinic news release Indicates the Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees could give final approval to the building projects before the end of this year.

The news release says Mayo Clinic officials will be meeting with "neighborhood and downtown stakeholders" in the coming weeks to share more information about the potential projects and their impact on Rochester. The statement also says Mayo Clinic "will continue to regularly engage with the community to share updates and solicit input as these plans progress."
