Rochester Ties Record Warm Low for June 29

Monday’s low temperature at the Rochester Airport was 74. That ties the June 29 record warm low that was set back in 1931.

It’s the warmest low temperature Rochester has seen since June 22 of last year, when a low of 75 was recorded, according to the National Weather Service.

Daily temperature record keeping began on July 1 of 1886.

Extreme Heat Warning Remains in Place

The record tying low comes amid the first heatwave of summer. Rochester is under an Extreme Heat Warning that also includes Wabasha, Dodge, Winona, Mower, Fillmore and Houston Counties.

The warning for southeast Minnesota was originally set to expire at 9 p.m. on Tuesday but has been extended to last until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Dangerously high heat index values approaching 104 are possible Tuesday and Wednesday, the warning says.

Officials say the extreme heat and humidity pose an increased risk for heat-related illnesses especially for those working outdoors. Everyone in the warning area is advised to drink fluids, avoid the sun and to check on relatives and neighbors.
