Rochester Council May Override Two Mayor Norton Vetoes

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -The Rochester City Council agenda for Monday's meeting includes possible overrides of two recent vetoes issued by Mayor Kim Norton.

Possible Veto Overrides on City Council Agenda For Monday

The first veto involves a decision to accept a feasibility study that includes a recommendation on the preferred trail route for the planned Willow Creek Regional Recreation Trail in southeast Rochester. The 4-0 vote by the City Council to adopt the feasibility study cleared the way for awarding the nearly $420,000 contract to develop the final design for the project.

Landowner raises concerns about trail route

During the meeting, a longtime landowner impacted by the recommended route for the recreational trail expressed his opposition to the plan. Prior to the vote, Mayor Norton recommended directing staff to consider options that would reduce the impact on the private property owner.

Second veto involves waste processing facility

The mayor's other veto involves the City Council's approval to use approximately $350,000 in contingency funds to relocate a waste processing facility in northwest Rochester to accommodate a planned residential development.
