
Rochester Planning & Zoning Chair Announces Run for City Council
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Chair of Rochester’s Planning and Zoning Commission is announcing a run for city council.

Ruchi Gupta announced her candidacy for Ward 5 on the Rochester City Council Thursday morning.
The ward mainly covers northeast Rochester.
Ruchi Gupta Announces Run for Ward 5 Seat on Rochester City Council
Gupta, who is also a member of the Joint Airport Zoning Board, works as a Statistical Programmer in Quantitative Health Sciences at Mayo Clinic and has also taught mathematics at Cardinal Stritch University and Rochester Community and Technical College.
Gupta’s announcement says her priorities are meeting the needs of Ward 5, environmental sustainability, and having a, “healthy local economy, combined with intelligent local and global connectivity.”
The announcement says Gupta’s time on the planning and zoning commission has given her, “deep insight into Rochester’s housing shortage and the dramatic rise in homelessness since the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as Rochester’s place in the global economy.”

She describes affordability, housing, transportation and daily life as an “urgent challenge,” brought on by “economic conditions.”
Gupta came to the United States in 1993 and has lived in Rochester since 2002, the announcement says.
Shaun Palmer currently represents Ward 5 on the Rochester City Council. He has not yet announced whether or not he will run for re-election.
