
Pilot Injured in Crash of Small Plane Near Saint Charles

arles, MN (KROC-AM News the) - The pilot of a small plane is recovering from injuries suffered in a crash yesterday evening in Winona County.
Pilot Injured After Engine Trouble Forces Emergency Landing
A statement issued by the Winona County Sheriff's Office says the incident was reported around 6:50 p.m. near the intersection of Winona County Roads 33 and 6 in a rural area south of I-90, approximately 5 miles southeast of St. Charles. The Sheriff's Office says a preliminary investigation found that the pilot experienced engine trouble and was attempting to make an emergency landing.

Injured Pilot Transported to Rochester For Treatment
The pilot, identified only as a 62-year-old man, was able to exit the aircraft and was later transported by ambulance to St. Marys Hospital for treatment.

Second Plane Crash in Winona County in Less Than a Month
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident, which was the second plane crash in Winona County in less than a month. On June 25, a 74-year-old Winona man was killed when the ultralight aircraft he was piloting crashed. The NTSB's preliminary investigation indicated that he had just installed a new wing on the aircraft.
