Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Stewartville completed an undefeated season by winning against Annandale Saturday afternoon to win the 2023 Class 3A State Championship.

The Tigers defeated the Cardinals 43-13 in the annual Prep Bowl at US Bank Stadium and finished the season with a perfect 14-0 record.

According to a game summary provided by the Minnesota State High School League, Stewartville's Carter Miller ran for two touchdowns and caught another as the Tigers dominated the contest. He rushed for 144 yards in the game, while Stewartville's quarterback, Ayden Helder, completed 15 of 23 passes for 206 yards with two throwing touchdowns and one rushing score.

This is Stewartville's first state title. MSHL record books indicate Stewartville previously made it to the state title contest in 1977 and 1986 but lost both games.

Earlier today, Kingsland lost to Nevis in the 9-player championship game. The final score was 14-12. The MSHL report on the game says the Knights' last appearance in the Prep Bowl was in 2003 when Kingsland was the runner-up after winning state titles in 1995 and 2002.

The Minnesota State High School League says history was made Friday when MJ Wagenson of Pine Island became the first woman to serve on the officiating team for a state High School football semi-final game. MJ was a member of the team that officiated the Class 2A game between Barnesville and Jackson County Central.
