The Goodhue Wildcats trailed much of their quarterfinals Class AA Girls Basketball StateTournament game with Crosby-Ironton Wednesday night but prevailed 67-59.

The Wildcats trailed by 3 at halftime and by as much as 8 points in the second half but shut out the Rangers second leading scorer in the second half and held their leading scorer under her 31.5 points per game average.

Tori Oehrlein, freshman, 5'11 guard scored 11 points with 11 rebounds in the first half to give her team a 32-29 lead.

After Oehrlein achieved driving layup after driving layup during a stretch of action in the second half Goodhue Head Coach Josh Wieme took a time out.

The Wildcats made hoops more difficult for Oherlein by doubling her when she got across midcourt to get the ball out of her hands.  They also had players pay attention to her on rebounds limiting her to 4 the entire second half.

Oehrlein is an impressive talent.  She finished with 27 points, 15 rebounds but was off from long distance (2 of 6).  Partly due to playing every second of the game.  She looked spent at the end of the first half.

The Wildcats were able to get her and two other starters in foul trouble which had to take away some of their aggressiveness.

The free throw line was clearly the difference in the game with Goodhue going 18 of 26, Crosby-Ironton 6 of 9.

The Rangers were 6 of 14 from long range in the first half, 3 of 13 in the second half because Goodhue did a better job of closing out on shooters and I think C-I was tired.

4 of the 5 Rangers starters logged approximately 32 minutes or more.

There were 8 lead changes, 5 ties in the game.  Goodhue took the lead with 7:22 to go in the game and never relinquished it after that point.  Kendyl Lodermeier, sophomore, 5'11, hit a jumper in the paint to give her team a 52-51 score.

With 57 seconds left Oehrlien hit a long three-point leaner to make the score 61-58 and was fouled but she missed the free throw.

At :47 to go Tori Miller made two free throws to give the Wildcats a 63-58 lead.

Goodhue was 1 for 8 from long range in the first half, 2 for 4 in the second half.  The Wildcats had 40 rebounds in the game, 16 offensive, while Crosby-Ironton had 34 rebounds.  14 on offense.

Points in the paint was another key statistic with Goodhue scoring 38 points there and the Rangers 24 points in the lane.  The Wildcats had 21-second chance points to C-I's 8 second chance points.

Our Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna Goodhue Deliverers of the game were Kendyl Lodermeier with 19 points, 12 in the paint and 9 rebounds.
