Hockey Day Minnesota was Saturday with a number of girls and boys hockey games featured outdoors in White Bear Lake.

Area teams also celebrated the State of Hockey with competitions inside.

The Faribault Falcons boys hockey team lost 4-1 in Albert Lea.

It's a mystery what has happened to the Falcons power play.  During their 4 game winning streak to start this month they were very efficient.  In their last two games they are 1 for 11.

Against the Tigers Faribault went 0 for 4 while Albert Lea was 1 for 2 on the power play.

Albert Lea scored 3 goals in the first period every way possible.  Even strength, power play and short handed.

Each team had two penalties in the period.  Shots on goal were 9 to 8 in favor of Albert Lea.

6:20 of second period Owen Amelkovich scored an unassisted goal for the Falcons.  Albert Lea matched it with Joseph Yoon getting his second goal of the game.

Senior Jacob Scherf had 28 saves for Faribault.  The Faclons had 31 shots on goal, Albert Lea 32.

With the win the Tigers are 6-3 with 12 points in the Big Nine and 13-5 overall.  Faribault drops to 7-10 overall, 4-6 with 8 points in the league.

The Falcons host St. Paul Academy Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

Owatonna defeated Rochester Century 4-1 at Graham Arena in Rochester thanks in large part to an outstanding game from goalie Brennan Sletten, junior.  39 saves.

Andrew Mitchel, sophmore, had a hat trick for the Huskies giving him 10 goals this season.

Shots on goal were 40 for Century, 20 for Owatonna.

The Huskies are 5-2-1 with 11 points in Big Nine, 7-8-1 overall.  Rochester Century is 7-2 with 14 points in the league and 10-8 overall.

Owatonna has Mayo visit Four Seasons Arena Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Northfield blanked league leading Rochester Mayo 3-0 in Northfield Saturday for Hockey Day Minnesota.

Keaton Walock, senior, picked up his 6th shutout of the season which is tied with Kam Hendrickson, Junior, Chanhassen for most in the state.

It was Walock's 4th shutout this month.

The Raiders had 35 shots on goal, Spartans 20.

Northfield scored two goals in the second period.  9:29 Kamden Kaiser power play assists to Ty Frank (18) and Mike Fossum (19).

13:36 Andrew Winter (11) with assists to Kaiser (15) and Brayden Olsen (17).

Kaiser scored an empty net goal with 40 seconds to go in the game.  His 26th, assists to Cayden Monson (20) and Jake Geiger (22).

Kaiser and Geiger lead the Big Nine with 41 and 38 points respectively.

Mayo was 0 for 4 on the power play, Northfield 1 for 4.

Mayo is still in first place with 26 points and a 8-2 league record, 13-4-1 overall.  Northfield is next with 18 points, 9-2 in Big Nine, 15-4 overall.

Walock earned his 15th win which is second best in boys hockey in Minnesota.

The Raiders have Rochester John Marshall come to Northfield Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Minnesota River edged Marshall 3-2 in LeSueur after erasing a 1-0 first period deficit with 2 goals in the second period.

The Bulldogs added an insurance goal in the third before the Tigers scored on the power play with 11 seconds left in the game.

Marshall was 1 for 3 on the power play while Minnesota River was 2 of 5.

5:02 into the second period Braylon Hoffman scored a power play goal assists to Hayden Stensrud (6), Cole Goecke (7) to tie the game.

9:59 of second period Stensrud scored (3) another power play goal assisted by Kellen O'Keefe and Alex Schaffer (5).

2:29 into third period Hoffman (2) connected with assists to O'Keefe (8) and Isaac Schaffer (6).

The Bulldogs are 6-4 in the Big South with 12 points, 9-9 overall.  Marshall is 6-5 in the conference with 12 points, 8-10-1 overall.

Ayden Christ, junior, stopped 29 shots for his 5th win of the season.

Minnesota River is at Waseca Tuesday 7:00 p.m.
