Southeast Minnesota Could See 12+ Inches of Snow by Sunday Night

A dangerous winter storm is set to move through southeast Minnesota this weekend. The main threat will be heavy snow that will create very difficult travel conditions.

Yesterday, I published an update with the latest projections from the Weather Channel. At that time, we were looking at 8 inches. Their forecast has been updated and now we're expected to get more snow... a lot more.

Temperatures will continue to slide for the rest of the week. We’ll have highs in the 30s on Saturday and Sunday, Monday’s highs will drop into the teens, and we'll be in the low 20s for St. Patrick’s Day next Tuesday.

Southeast Minnesota Could Get a Foot of Snow This Weekend

The heavy snow is expected to begin late Saturday night, with 5 to 8 inches possible. The Weather Channel says more snow is expected Sunday with another 3 to 5 inches possible. By the time this storm finally moves out of the area, many of us could be looking at more than a foot of fresh snow to shovel or snow blow.

We'll see how much we actually get, but you should plan for the worst. You might want to consider adjusting traveling plans and if you usually head out to church on Sunday mornings, please call ahead to ensure services haven't been canceled.
