Magazines aren't as popular as they once were, but TIME Magazine isn't your typical publication. TIME is an American institution that is well-respected and globally known for its in-depth news coverage, iconic Person of the Year, and the TIME100 list highlighting the world's most influential people.

The magazine also spotlights excellence in business, and a local Southeast Minnesota businessman has just been nominated for prestigious national recognition from the legendary publication.

Albert Lea Business Leader Earns Prestigious TIME Dealer of the Year Nomination

Robert "Bob" Syverson, president and owner of Dave Syverson Auto Center in Albert Lea, has been officially nominated for the 2027 TIME Dealer of the Year award. Out of more than 20,000 dealerships nationwide, Syverson is one of just 48 nominees chosen for industry success and deep community impact.

Building a Family Business Legacy in Southern Minnesota

Syverson's journey began decades ago at his father Dave's dealership, which was founded in 1968.

“Starting at such a young age taught me that success does not happen overnight,” Syverson said. “You have to show up, put in the work, continue learning, and stay committed to improving. Those lessons have guided me throughout my career.”

After graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1983, Syverson gained experience by managing a dealership in Denver before returning to Albert Lea in 1990. He took sole ownership in 2021, expanding facility operations and bringing a third generation of his family into the business.

“Everything we have accomplished at Dave Syverson Auto Center has been made possible by hardworking employees, loyal customers, and generations of people who believe in our family business,” Syverson said.

Award-Winning Automotive Sales and Service

Dave Syverson Auto Center has been recognized with multiple CARFAX Top-Rated Dealer awards, DealerRater Consumer Satisfaction Awards, and regional recognition across sales, service, and body shop operations.

“These awards belong to our employees,” Syverson said. “They reflect the care our team puts into each customer interaction, and the trust local families have placed in our dealership over generations.”

Giving Back to the Albert Lea Community

For many years, the dealership has supported the Sparky Golf Tournament benefiting individuals with disabilities. It also provides vehicles and support to Youth for Christ and Jack Frost Closet, and partners with Riverland Community College to mentor the next generation of automotive technicians.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the dealership partnered with Albert Lea Area Schools to launch an annual holiday meal program for families in need. In 2021, Albert Lea Police Officer Arik Matson suffered a major on-duty injury, the dealership joined Ford Motor Company to donate a new Ford Expedition to his family, and has provided ongoing maintenance for the vehicle.

Syverson said, “When someone in the community faces a challenge, we look for ways to use our resources and expertise to help.”

Dealer of the Year Winner Announcement Coming in 2027

The national 2027 TIME Dealer of the Year winner and regional finalists will be announced at the 110th annual NADA Show in Orlando on February 19, 2027.
