It's been a fast-growing and award-winning restaurant in California, and now Mike's Red Tacos says it'll be expanding soon here in Minnesota.

If you're a taco fan here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, there's good news: An award-winning restaurant chain in California has just announced that it'll soon be selling its signature crunch and savory consommé to Minnesota later this year.

Finding restaurants that serve tacos isn't too tough to do these days. In addition to a variety of local food trucks that serve up their own street tacos, a couple of massive chains have been tackling tacos for a while.

First, there's Taco Bell, which is probably the most famous taco chain in the U.S., known for items like the Crunchy Taco, Doritos Locos Tacos, and other items. Then there's Taco John’s, a favorite here in Minnesota and the Midwest that's known for its crunchy tacos and Potato Olés.

And now, industry site QSR says Mike's Red Tacos, based in San Diego, CA, has signed a 15-unit agreement to bring its signature brand of authentic Birria and red tacos to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. After starting as a local food truck, the Mike's Red Tacos brand took off and was named a Yelp Top 100 U.S. Restaurant, and is celebrated in Southern California for its beef Birria menu.

15 New Locations: Twin Cities Group to Launch Massive Expansion

Here's the story of Mike's Red Tacos, according to its corporate website:

Mike’s Red Tacos started with a simple idea — serve Birria the way it’s meant to be enjoyed: rich, flavorful, and unforgettable. Our founder, Mike Touma, fell in love with birria and spent a year perfecting every detail, from the slow-simmered beef to the signature consommé.

QSR says Twin Cities-based restaurant owner Michael McGuire and his family business, 825 Ventures, are set to open 15 Mike's Red Tacos locations over the next five years. McGuire already owns 23 different Jersey Mike's restaurants across Minnesota, as well.

BringMeTheNews says the first of these Mike's Red Tacos restaurants will likely open later this year, and while no specific locations were mentioned, the story noted that McGuire is looking at locations, 'in the Twin Cities and surrounding region.'
