The federal government shutdown may officially be over, but you might have trouble getting your favorite Starbucks drink at these Minnesota locations-- but it's for a totally different reason.

Starbucks has been making the news more often in 2025. Back in January, it announced a new code of conduct for its cafes, as it rolled out a new 'buy something or leave' policy. Axios reported that the change rolled back a previous policy that had been in place since 2018.

Then, in February, Starbucks quietly announced it was laying off around 1,100 of its corporate employees, though those cuts didn't affect any employees at any of its cafe locations here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and across the country.

And now, Starbucks workers at 65 different store locations in 45 separate cities across the country have gone on strike, to protest a 'lack of progress in labor negotiations with the company,' the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The strike is timed to take place on November 12, 2025, which happens to be the coffee giant's promotional Red Cup Day, the day Starbucks has given out free, reusable cups to customers who buy a holiday drink. It's a practice that started in 2018 and is usually one of the busiest days of the year for Starbucks.

And, by the way, there are a *lot* of Starbucks locations across the country. While Starbucks itself hadn't published the number of its cafes previously, this new announcement says it will end 2025 with nearly 18,300 locations here in the U.S., including around 184 of them right here in the North Star State, according to estimates from World Population Review.

These Minnesota Starbucks Locations Could Be Affected

So which Minnesota locations are affected by the strike? According to this FastCompany story, the 2025 Starbucks strike has listed both Minneapolis and Chanhassen as cities where Starbucks stores could be impacted by the strike.

While the story didn't specify just *which* Minneapolis store or stores would be affected, the Starbucks store locator says there are 15 different Starbucks locations currently operating in Minnesota's largest city.

Meanwhile, there appear to be only two Starbucks locations in Chanhassen, with a stand located inside the Lunds and Byerly's grocery store on West 78th Street and a stand-alone store on the corner of Arboretum Drive and Dakota Avenue.

No End Date Yet for Starbucks Strike in Minnesota

Another mystery is just how long this strike will last. The AP story notes that Starbucks union organizers said 'there is no date set for the strike to end, and more stores are prepared to join if Starbucks doesn’t reach a contract agreement with the union,' the AP noted.
