In orders from the Federal government, the Faribault Woolen Mill Co. was recently designated by the U.S. Department of Defense as “essential critical infrastructure” due to it's importance to soldiers overseas, specifically Afghanistan, in bringing them warmth at night.

In a memo sent out to businesses by Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Dr. Ellen Lord March 20, "workers who support the essential products and services required to meet national security commitments to the Federal Government and the U.S. Military...have a special responsibility to maintain [their] normal work schedule."

This includes the Faribault Woolen Mill Co. as they produce woolen blankets for "U.S. Army and Navy, for every United States Military Academy West Point cadet, and specifically for soldiers serving in Afghanistan." according to Twin City Business Magazine.

In 2019, Faribault Woolen Mill sent more than 41,000 blankets to the military; so far this year, the company has already delivered more than 42,000.
