Kenyon-Wanamingo ISD 2172 Wants Increase in Operating Levy

Kenyon-Wanamingo school Superintendent Bryan Boysen was the guest on a recent KDHL AM Minnesota program to explain the district request to bump up a operating levy.Boysen is in his first year at Kenyon-Wanamingo and says he did do some research in an attempt to find out why the district is in it's present financial situation.  He said the current School Board have been good stewards of the budget but, "frankly the State Legislature has not kept pace with inflation.  Two percent a year increases doesn't work."

The K-W School District will hold a special election for an operating levy referendum on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 seeking voter approval of one ballot question.

QUESTION 1  would revoke the district's existing referendum of $295.68 per pupil and would replace it with $800.00 per pupil with inflationary adjustment beginning with taxes payable 2021.  It would be in effect for ten years.

Boysen emphasized with the levy request agricultural property owners will pay taxes based only on the value of the house, garage and one acre.  Seasonal recreational residential property (cabins) will pay no taxes for the proposed referendum.
