The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights volleyball team closed out their first Gopher Conference season with a 3-0 win over the Triton Cobras in the Castle.

Scores were 25-14, 25-22. 25-14 giving the Knights a 10-1 Gopher record and 16-3 overall.  They finish in second place in the conference.

Hayfield nearly upset Bethlehem Academy pushing them to 5 sets but the Cardinals persevered to secure the Gopher Conference Championship.

The Cobras came into the match with 4 wins on the season.  Give them a ton of credit, they played hard but simply couldn't overcome the Class A #9 ranked K-W team.

Triton lost the first set primarily by committing 15 errors.  My unofficial statistics had them with 5 kills in the first set.

The second set the Cobras made a great comeback.  The score was tied at 13 before the Knights pulled away only to see Triton force them to 5 set points before winning the match 25-22.

The Cobras had more kills in that set according to my unofficial tally.  14 to 10, but errors again doomed them with 14 errors compared to K-W's 7.

The third set Triton had 8 kills, 11 errors.

Junior Cobras setter Cameron Vermilyea showed her versatility with 6 kills.  Senior Emma Ogren added 6 kills to give her 110 on the season.  She also joined junior Ariana Wennes to put up a impressive block.

Junior Mackenzie Geers added 6 kills and junior Kyla Smith had 5 kills.  My unofficial statistical totals for Triton included 27 kills, 23 hitting errors, 40 total errors, 1 ace serves, 6 blocks.

Kenyon-Wanamingo official statistics had them with 33 kills, 17 blocks, 48 digs'

Junior 5'6 Josie Quam led the team with 15 set assists, added 4 kills, 6 digs, 2 ace serves with her older sister Mara in the house.  Mara Quam last weekend set the all-time digs record for Minnesota State Mankato.

Josie leads this year's K-W team with 45 ace serves.

Senior 5'11 Leah Berg had 9 kills (total now 183), 5 blocks (67).

Classmate 5'11 Stella Rechtzigel finished with 8 blocks (93 on season), 4 kills (101), 2 ace serves (35).

Junior 5'8 Tessa Erlandson led the team with 17 digs (now 265), adding 6 kills (166).

Senior 5'8 Julia Dahl added 7 kills (86), 3 blocks (16), 8 digs (206).

Sophmore libero 4'10 Rachel Ryan had 7 digs (234), an ace serve (13).

A night after missing 11 serves the Knights cut the number to 6 but still want to diminish those with the playoffs around the corner.

Freshman Carmen Nerison is seeing more and more playing time which frees Quam up to do more attacking.  Nerison was the only Knights player with a perfect night serving on Monday.  She did have one error Tuesday night finishing with 11 set assists.
