Local Chamber Of Commerce Warning About Fake $20’s
In an email from the Blooming Prairie Chamber of Commerce, fake twenty-dollar bills have been found circulating in Southern Minnesota, and they want local businesses to be aware of the phony currency.
The social media capture was sent out by the Blooming Prairie Chamber of Commerce on behalf of F&M Bank. The note attached to the email warns business owners that numerous fake bills have been found in recent weeks in Southern Minnesota, including the images above from Albert Lea.
According to the Albert Lea Tribune, on July 27 3 separate reports were made in connection to businesses taking in the fake money.
You can spot the fake currency by looking carefully at the bill in question. The $20 shown above has the words REPLICA on it, and also states that "this note is not legal. It is to be used for motion pictures" on the lower-left corner.
According to ItestCash.com if you realize that you are in possession of fake currency you should:
- Never put yourself in danger. Do not confront the suspected passer.
- Do not return the bill to the passer.
- If possible, delay the passer with some excuse.
- Observe the passer's description and write down their license plate numbers if possible.
- Contact your local police department or call your local U.S. Secret Service Office.
- Write your initials and date in the white border area of the suspected counterfeit note.
- Do not handle the counterfeit note. Place it inside a protective cover such as a plastic bag or envelope to protect it.
- Hand over the suspected currency to a properly identified police officer or a Secret Service Special Agent or mail it to your nearest U.S. Secret Service field office.
