Meat Shortage Forces Wendy’s To Stop Serving Burgers at Some Locations
The coronavirus pandemic continues to disrupt the meat supply chain across the country. Earlier this week, Costco announced a limit on the amount of meat each customer could purchase. HyVee instituted a similar policy earlier today. Now, we're learning that Wendy's has pulled their signature item, hamburgers, off of menus at some of their restaurant locations around the country. CNN has a report that says 1 in 5 Wendy's locations has run out of beef.
I reached out to the two locations in Rochester to see what was going on. I was told by an employee at the north location that they are serving singles, doubles, and Jr. cheeseburgers in their 4 for 4 promotion. I asked an employee at the south location and was told they are still serving hamburgers until they run out of beef.
“It is widely known that beef suppliers across North America are currently facing production challenges,” Wendy’s spokeswoman Heidi Schauer said in a statement to CNBC. “We continue to supply hamburgers to all of our restaurants, with deliveries two or three times a week, which is consistent with normal delivery schedules. However, some of our menu items may be temporarily limited at some restaurants in this current environment.”
