After clearing the driveway of snow yesterday morning I decided to bring the grandkids to see the Disney movie Moana. Saturday had also been a busy day and after spending the morning at the helm of my snowblower I thought we could all use an afternoon of entertainment.

This movie starts out with demigod Maui stealing the heart of of island goddess Te Fiti, which possesses the power to create life. Maui is a shapeshifter and gains that power from his magical staff-like fishhook. As he is attempting to get away, he's knocked into the sea by the lava demon Te Ka, losing the heart and his fishhook.

Moana, who is destined to become the chieftan of her island, would rather be sailing the sea but has been forbidden to go past the reef that surrounds the island. Against her father's wishes she decides to go out in search of Maui when the villagers discover that the island is starting to die due to a series of events that started when he stole the heart. She plans on finding Maui and forcing him to return the heart to its rightful place, thus hopefully restoring the balance between nature and man.

Without giving away anymore of the story than that, I found the movie to be quite entertaining. Even though this show clocks in at just under two hours, I found it had just the right amount of action, comedy and musical numbers to keep the pace of the story moving along. My granddaughters also really enjoyed it and talked about it all the way home after the show. If you haven't gone to see it, I highly recommend that you do.
