If I haven't mentioned it before, I love to spend time with my grandchildren. So yesterday I decided to take my oldest granddaughter out for lunch at any place she wanted to go in Owatonna and then to see the movie Sing. She was so excited to be able to spend a day with just Grandpa that she even wore her new dress and some fancy shoes. For lunch, I was pushing for Pizza Ranch but she wanted to go to Burger King, so that's where we went.

After the meal we drove over to the Northwoods Cinema 10 theater for the 12:30PM screening of Sing. Of course we had to get popcorn, pop and candy before we went in to find a seat. This movie has been out for a couple of weeks, so I was really surprised by the crowd that had already packed the theater but we finally found a couple of seats and settled in for the show.

Sing stars the vocal talents of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Tori Kelly, John C. Reilly, Seth MacFarlane and others. The basic plot of the movie follows a koala bear, Buster, the owner of a once-popular theater that has slowly been going under for years. In a last-ditch effort to bring patrons back into his theater, Buster decides to host a singing competition with a $1,000 prize, that due to typo on the posters, ends up being $100,000. The turnout for the contest is huge and Buster ends up cutting quite a few of the competitors to get it down to cast of animal characters that make up the show. At this point I don't want to give away any more of the plot, but suffice it to say, this is a fun show for kids and adults alike. It's filled with colorful, interesting characters, great music, comedy, action and a fun storyline that all comes together in the end. I quickly realized that several of the kids around us had seen this movie before as they were reciting the lines along with the movie, which spoke volumes about the popularity of this movie.

If you're looking for an afternoon escape, I highly recommend you go see Sing before it leaves the theaters.
