Logan is the only movie that has come out this year that I really want to see. Unfortunately, I haven't found the time to go, but I hope to see it in the theater before it's no longer there. A big action movie like Logan needs to be seen on the big screen to get the full impact.

With that said, there are certainly a lot of movies that will be hitting theaters this summer. I'm looking forward to about a double handful of them. A couple are animated movie sequels, one of them is a prequel of sorts; a couple of them are action/comedy sequel, one is based on a graphic novel; another is based on one of my favorite series of books written by Stephen King; and one of them is a re-imagining of a franchise of movies from my childhood, which so far has been an interesting and creative interpretation of those movies.

Here's a look at the summer blockbusters that I'm anxiously awaiting:

  • 1

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

A continuation of the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow. Sure it's just another paycheck for Johnny Depp, but come on, the other ones were just good fun, plus it has Javier Bardem starring in it, so it can't be all that bad.

  • 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Time to save the universe... again, for Star-Lord and his ragtag team of misfit heroes.

  • 3

    Alien: Covenant

The second part of the Alien prequel trilogy that started with Prometheus. If you didn't watch Prometheus, you'd better rent it and catch up because certain characters from that movie show up in Covenant.

  • 4

    Despicable Me 3

This is my favorite animated franchise and I literally texted my entire family when I saw the trailer for this hilarious movie starring Steve Carell as Gru and his twin brother Dru. And of course there's the Minions. The Despicable movies are family events in my family.

  • 5

    Cars 3

Are Lightning McQueen's days of racing glory over?

  • 6

War for the Planet of the Apes

This is my all-time favorite franchise of movies from my childhood. I was so excited when I finally got to watch the original Planet of the Apes and I've been hooked ever since.

  • 7

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

I really don't know much about this movie except that it's based on a graphic novel and written, directed and produced by Luc Beeson, the gentleman who gave us The Fifth Element. After watching the trailer you'll notice that this movie has the look and style of that aforementioned movie.

  • 8

    Dunkirk

A World War II movie from Christopher Nolan. Need I say more?

  • 9

    Wonder Woman

Not really sure if I want to see this since no one can do it better than Lynda Carter, but I might give it a try. The trailer looks fantastic.

  • 10

    The Mummy

A retooling of the highly successful Mummy franchise, this time starring Tom Cruise. Another movie I'm not 100 percent positive I want to see, but after watching the trailer...
