It seems only right that the land of 10,000 lakes has a fishing museum. The Minnesota Fishing Museum and Hall of Fame is currently located in picturesque Little Falls. The museum features an assortment of fishing exhibits, displays, and memorabilia, and amazingly the collection was all acquired through donations. With about 6,000 people coming through the doors a year, the museum is now looking at getting state funding to help put it in a building that will allow more of its collection to be displayed.

The museum's president Robert DeRosier told the Forum News Service that much of the funds would go to, everything from cataloging various items the museum has, to relocating the museum and collection to a new, larger and better facility. Some places that have been mentioned like Brainerd and St. Cloud keep it in Northern Minnesota, but there is a possible Southern Minnesota city that was mentioned, and it makes a lot of sense. Owatonna. And why not, we've already got a great outdoor enthusiastic community.

The museum never directly says how much assistance it is looking for from the state, but right now the museum makes about $180,000 a year from donations and attendance. If you want more information on the museum or want to plan a visit you can click here for more information.

I'd recommend on your way up, to stop into my wife's families hometown of Pierz and grab some old fashioned hot dogs from Thielen Meats, delicious!
