Minnesota National Guard Troops Head Home From Washington DC
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota National Guard soldiers that were deployed to Washington D.C. for the presidential inauguration are returning home this weekend.
Learfield Wire Services is reporting that 400 of the National Guard members are scheduled to arrive in Minnesota on Saturday and another 350 are due to return on Sunday. They were among the over 26,000 National Guard troops that were activated for the security mission in Washington D.C. following the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The National Guard says the deployment involved about 200 Airmen from the St. Paul-based 133rd Airlift Wing and the 148th Fighter Wing in Duluth, along with 500 soldiers with the 682nd Engineer Battalion headquartered in St. Cloud and the Duluth-based 94th Cavalry Regiment. The Minnesota National Guard personnel participated in what was called Task Force Metro, which involved staging at strategic places around the capitol to respond quickly if their assistance with crowd control was needed.
