Minnesota Weekly COVID-19 Report Shows Death Rate Down

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) each Thursday releases a weekly report that goes in depth about COVID-19.  The positive rate statewide is 5.7% for tests administered.  Just a few weeks ago 11 counties had a double digit positive rate including Rice County.

There are currently three counties with a double digit percent of tests being positive.

1. Nobles       31%
2. Watonwan 10.9%
3. Todd           10.4%

Rice County is currently (through 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2020) at 5.1% with 21,208 tests administered.  Steele County 4.2%, Scott County 6.5%, Waseca 3.7%, Dakota 7.0%, Le Sueur 4.9%, Goodhue 1.8%, Dodge 2.8%, Wabasha 2.3%.

Hennepin County with the most COVID-19 positives and the most deaths has a positive rate of 8.3%.  Ramsey County's is 7.8%, Olmsted County 4.5%.

Lake of the Woods is the only county in Minnesota with 0 positive tests according to the Minnesota Department of Health.  Kittson County has 2 total, Cook County has 5, Lac Qui Parle 8, Traverse 9.

13 counties have fewer than 25 total positive tests.

Rice County had 1,082, Steele 391, Goodhue 212, Dakota 4,338, Dodge 148,

Le Sueur 260, Waseca 166, Scott 1,436 and Wabasha 101.

Rice County has the second highest laboratory cumulative test rate (tests per 10,000 people) in the state (3,255).  Mower County has the highest rate (3,936).  Olmsted is at 3,151 .  Hennepin is 2,055, Ramsey 1,957. Goodhue 2,451, Waseca 2,366, Wabasha 2,009, Le Sueur 1, 902, Dakota 1, 521, Dodge 2,618, Scott 1,655, Steele 2,516.

The statewide laboratory test rate is 1,862 tests per 10,000 people.

The death rate has been decreasing and is relatively flat over the past month.

The Minnesota Department of Health says on their website, "Many people with COVID-19 are not tested, so the laboratory confirmed cases in this report represent only a fraction of the total number of people in Minnesota who have had COVID-19.  Data for the cases that were tested and returned positive."

• Ages 60-69     4,455 positives       200 deaths

• Ages  0-5        1,304 positives           1 death
• Ages 90-99        978 positives       419 deaths
• Age  100+            56 positives          32 deaths

Average age for all cases is 36, hospitalized 59, non-hospitalized positives 34, Intensive Care 61 and deaths 83 statewide.
