It’s not exactly a secret that being a Minnesota sports fan often leads to countless moments of disappointment and suffering. Many of us are jaded to the point where we wait for the other shoe to drop anytime a team suddenly starts overachieving. Remember the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings of 2016? This year’s Minnesota Wild team? The Minnesota Timberwolves every year? I’ll refrain from mentioning the suddenly hot Minnesota Twins, but…come on. Come on. I’m not even trying to be negative here – this is just something many of us are used to.

So it’s pretty cool when good sports things do happen in the North Star State, even when it’s with both a team and a league that’s somewhat underappreciated. Hey, I won’t gloss over the fact that the WNBA isn’t as popular as the NFL, NBA, NHL, or MLB, but let’s also not ignore what an awesome achievement this is for one of our own. No matter the sport, this is a pretty amazing feat that deserves respect and celebration.

So let’s give credit to Minnesota’s own Lindsay Whalen, who is now on the verge of being the WNBA all-time victories leader.

That’s really cool. It’s also one of many impressive accomplishments for the Hutchinson, Minnesota-born star:

  • A 4-time All-Missota Conference pick
  • A 3-time WNBA Champion
  • A 5-time WNBA All-Star
  • WNBA playoffs all-time assists leader
  • NCAA Mideast Region MVP

…And so many more to mention. So if you’re a Minnesota sports fan, take a quick moment to bask in Lindsay’s glory. WE DID IT!

But really, it’s cool that young Minnesota girls who play basketball have a local role model. If Lindsay can do it, so can I! That’s pretty rad.
