The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is responsible for running the elections for the Corn Research and Promotion Council and Soybean Research and Promotion Councils. These are commonly called the corn and soybean check-off. Every time a farmer sells a bushel of corn or soybeans they pay into the check-off. The programs are supervised and books are audited by the USDA. By Federal Law check-off funds can only be used for research, education and promotion.

Farmers that pay into the check-off elect other farmers to the board that makes decisions on how check-off funds are allocated. Farmers in District 8 which includes the counties of Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Freeborn, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Steele, Waseca and Watonwan should have received two ballots in the mail. One would be for electing  board member to the Corn Research and Promotion Council and the other for the Soybean Research and Promotion Council.

The signed and sealed ballots must be postmarked by April 5, 2021. If you raise corn and soybeans in those counties and did not receive a ballot call the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
