Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Transportation has some bad news for anyone needing to travel through the countryside to get to work on Monday.

A statement issued Sunday night indicates roadways across southeastern Minnesota remain in bad shape and it’s likely that many will remain closed into Monday. MnDOT says its crews are working to reopen closed highways, including I-35 south of Owatonna and I-90 west of Dexter. Motorists should review the MnDOT road conditions map, which will be continually updated as road conditions change through the and into Monday morning. You can access the MN511 site quickly through the News-Talk 1340 KROC-AM app.

As of Sunday night, most highways in the region are closed or no travel is advised because of the dangerous conditions created by strong winds blowing around the deep snow that fell Saturday night and Sunday morning. The latest forecasts suggest the winds may not subside until early Monday. Officials stress that motorists should not be on the highways and note that if they become stuck, the demand for tow trucks is very high and the wait will be long during a time that air temperatures are forecast to drop below zero.
