The Faribault Lakers are having a Alumni Recognition game Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Bell Field and hope a lot of their former players will be part of the day that organizers believe probably should have been done sooner.  The same is true of a ball on the press box in honor of former KDHL Sportscaster Mike Morrissey.  It's long overdue.

Morrissey is in five Halls of Fame including the Minnesota Baseball Coaches, Minnesota Football Coaches, Minnesota Basketball Coaches, Minnesota State High School League and Faribault Sports Hall of Fame.  He was inducted into the Minnesota Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1997.  So we could have and probably should have placed some kind of honor at the field while he was still with us.

Why do people wait until people die before they are recognized for accomplishments in this life?

Mike's son David will be joined by his family in unveiling the ball during a brief ceremony between the first and second game of a doubleheader with the St. Patrick Irish Sunday.

KDHL will be broadcasting the first game and hopefully some of the former Lakers players will join me to take a trip down memory lane. We will also broadcast the Morrissey ball dedication.

Our coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. thanks to Harley's Auto Salvage, Cedar Lake Electric, Pleasant Manor, Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault State Farm Insurance Agents Tony Langerud and Jason Krohn, Reliance Bank and Chappuis Jewelers.
