MSHSL Class 4A Girls Basketball State Tournament Preview
The 2022 MSHSL Class 4A Girls Basketball State Tournament opens Wednesday with games throughout the day in historic Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota Campus.
All schools in this year's tournament finished in the final Minnesota Basketball News rankings.
The top seed is top rated Hopkins (23-1) which is also ranked 6th in the nation by MaxPreps. Their only loss was to District of Columbia Champions Sidwell Friends 67-55. The Quakers are the top rated team in the country by MaxPreps.
Hopkins downed State entrants St. Michael- Albertville twice by scores of 77-33 and 84-71. They also defeated Rosemount twice with scores of 79-40 and 43-36.
At 10:00 a.m. The Royals will hit the raised floor against #15 ranked Lakeville North (20-9).
The Panthers are Section 1 representatives and one of three teams from the South Suburban Conference in the tournament.
They were swept by Rosemount and Shakopee and defeated state entrant Centennial (70-58).
Noon #4 seed, #10 ranked Rosemount (24-5) plays #5 seed, #18 ranked White Bear Lake (20-9). The Irish finished second in the South Suburban Conference averaging 59.8 and yielding 42.2 points per game.
They split with conference champion Shakopee, state entrant St. Michael-Albertville and are one of the three teams out of their league with 20+ wins.
The Bears average 52 points and allow 43.2. They finished third in the Suburban East Conference behind Stillwater Area and East Ridge of Woodbury.
2:00 p.m. #2 seed and #8 ranked Shakopee Sabers (26-3) square off against Roseville Area Raiders (21-8) rated #19 and recipients of no seed.
The Raiders average 61.0 and give up 51.9 points per game. They lost to White Bear Lake during the season 43-36 and defeated Centennial 55-52.
4:00 p.m. #3 seed, #5 rated St. Michael-Albertville (22-7) opens with #12 ranked Centennial (19-10).
The Cougars average 59.2 points and allow 55.5 points per game while finishing second in the Northwest Suburban Conference.
The Knights finished fourth in the seven team Lake Conference. The top four teams in the leauge all have over 20 wins.
St. Michael-Albertville averages 68.7 points a game while giving up 55.2.
Semifinals will be Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. so the victors get a day off before the Championship scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Saturday in The Barn.
