Multiple Accidents Monday Morning Injures 4 In Rice and Steele Counties

The rainy start to the week made the morning commute dangerous. Numerous accidents were reported in our area on Monday. One accident involved two children under the age of 3 years old in Steele County, and another accident in Rice County sent a Faribault man and Kenyon woman to District One Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The first Minnesota State Patrol reported crash occurred at 6:22 A.M. according to the report.  The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 60 and Hayward Ave in Wheeling Township located in Rice County, in which three vehicles were involved in the crash.

According to the State Patrol crash report a 2016 Dodge Ram, driven by 27-year-old Kyle Remold of Minneapolis, was westbound on Highway 60 in the area of Hayward Ave in Rice County when the Ram crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound 2010 Chevrolet Colorado, being driven by 62-year-old Gregory Mews of Faribault. A 2004 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by 22-year-old Victoria Hernandez of Kenyon, which was following the Colorado then collided with the Chevrolet.

Both Mews and Hernandez were taken to District One Hospital in Faribault with what were described as non-life threatening injuries. Also responding to the scene of the crash was the Rice County Sheriff's Office and the Faribault Fire Department.

In another early morning crash reported by the Minnesota State Patrol, occurred shortly before 7:30 A.M. in Summitt Township in Steele County.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported at 7:28 A.M. this morning a 3 vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 30 and 14th Ave SE in Summit Township. According to the report a 2017 Ford Explorer, driven by a 27-year old Blooming Prairie woman with a 2-year-old passenger in the SUV, and a Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 29-year-old St. Paul woman with a 2-year-old passenger in the SUV, were stationery on Hwy 30 at 14th Ave SE in Steele County. A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 31-year-old Anthony Ingram of Blooming Prairie, collided with the rear end of the Chevrolet Equinox which then collided with the rear of the Ford Explorer.

Injured in the crash were the driver and child occupant in the Chevrolet Equinox. The 29-year-old driver had what was reported at non-life threatening injuries, while the 2-year-old had what was reported to be life-threatening injuries. Both individuals were taken to Alina Hospital in Owatonna.

Assisting the State Patrol at the scene were the Ellendale Fire Department, Ellendale Ambulance, and the Steele County Sheriff's Office.
